Radisson on Flagstaff Gardens Melbourne

Overlooking seven hectares (18 acres) of century-old Moreton Bay figs, elms, and lawns in Melbourne’s oldest park, Radisson Flagstaff Gardens is positioned at the northern edge of Melbourne’s central business district in a legal precinct. Telstra (sports) Dome is 0.5 km (0.3 mile) south-west, and Docklands’ waterfront cafes and restaurants are 1 km due west. The highly efficient tram network may be accessed outside the hotel, with the (free) City Circle tram operating one block away (corner of William and La Trobe streets). The 10-storey Radisson comprises a well-equipped rooftop gym with sweeping city views, large spa tub, and steam room. Other features include a 24-hour business centre with both high-speed and wireless Internet access. A bistro-style bar and restaurant is located in the ground floor, and a 2007 soft refurbishment program has unveiled new carpets, earthy colour schemes, and vibrant furnishings across public areas, with flat-screen televisions presenting in-house specials, menu highlights, and events (for example, a complimentary pressing service between 5-8pm, Monday-Thursday, for up to two items per guestroom). “Concierge Corner” in the lobby is a new development with baggage scales, automatic shoe polisher, complimentary newspapers, and tour information. Tennis and netball courts are available for hire in Flagstaff Gardens (see the hotel concierge for details). The Radisson is positioned near the airport freeway and is therefore one of the first drop-off points for airport shuttle buses. Literally around the corner is the 125 year old Queen Victoria Market with more than 1000 stalls of fresh produce and general merchandise (open daily except Monday and Wednesday). The c.1903 Melbourne City Baths are less than 1 km away.

A 2007 soft refurbishment program across all guestrooms has unveiled new Sealy bedding, earthy colour schemes of soft browns and ochres, and environmentally-friendly installations such as four-minute shower (egg) timers and a voluntary AU$3 “Green Room” carbon reduction program for guests who wish to offset their stay. The 184 guestrooms and suites are located across levels 1-10. Standard guestroom highlights include: laptop-sized safes, city or park views, king or twin king single bedding, pillow menus, twining teas, full length mirrors, and soundproofing. Security is a priority with all guestrooms equipped with door peepholes, electronic swipe key entries, and two additional locks, in addition to security camera surveillance in hallway areas. By early 2009 it is expected that all televisions will be replaced by LCD flats-screens. Rollaway beds are full-sized king single beds on wheels (fold-up beds are not used).
